A Ka-Band CMOS Switched-Type Phase Shifter with Low Gain Error

This paper presents the design of a Ka-band 5-bit switched-type phase shifter (STPS) with 180° phase shift range. Optimizations of the phase shift units are performed to achieve wideband phase shift operation and reduce the gain error among the phase states. Implemented in 65-nm CMOS technology, the proposed 5-bit STPS achieves a measured RMS phase error of < 3.6° across 26-30 GHz. The gain error among the 32 phase states remains < ±0.4 dB, which eases the calibration of the phased-array system.
