Real-Time Stability Boundary Identification of Prosumers PCC in a Virtual Power Plant

A real-time stability boundary identification of prosumers’ point of common coupling buses in a virtual power plant is presented in this article. This stability boundary identification enables superior observability of the virtual power plant’s cyber-layer to the network prosumers. Hence, allowing prosumers to perform independently stability studies at their local point of common coupling bus terminals. Thereby, providing a secure alternative to the information received from a compromised virtual power plant cyber-layer during cyber-attacks. The main concept of this article is solving a pair of simultaneous differential equations to deduce the grid voltage seen at the prosumer point of common coupling bus. These two differential equations are describing the relation between the active and reactive power measurements observed at the prosumer point of common coupling bus and the grid voltage. Then, this real-time grid voltage observation is utilized in constructing P-V curve or P-Q-V surface for identifying the stability boundary (i.e., the critical point of collapse) of the prosumer point of common coupling bus. Finally, the theoretical analysis is validated with three scenarios.
