Demonstration of a 4 Gb/s Wavelength Division Multiplexing Based Li-Fi Network

This paper demonstrates the design of a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based light fidelity (Li-Fi) model for 4 users, operating at 4 Gb/s (4xl Gb/s), for downstream operation. The Li-Fi model was designed and simulated using commercial OptiSystem 7.0 simulator. For overall investigation of the Li-Fi system, the Li-Fi network was connected to a WDM based passive optical network. We examined the amount of noise introduced in the transmission path and corresponding signal recovery technique. We also investigated the four wavelength allocation and the multiplexed data occupied by the data carrying wavelengths, i.e. channels. As a result, simultaneous communication of all the channels is possible. Furthermore, we examined the eye diagrams at the transmitting and receiving end of the Li-Fi system for comparison. In contrast, we analyzed the system availability, signal-to-noise ratio, quality factor, and bit error rate. The proposed Li-Fi network opens a new era in the research field.
