A Wideband Aperture Coupled Patch Array with Non-resonant Mode Substrate Integrated Cavities

An X-Band aperture coupled patch array with non-resonant mode substrate integrated cavities is proposed in this paper. Each of the patch antenna cells is fed by a step microstrip line through an H-shaped gap. A non-resonant mode substrate integrated cavity is utilized to improve the bandwidth. To make sure the substrate integrated cavity is working at nonresonant mode within the desired frequency band, a defected ground structure is introduced. The influence of the nonresonant cavity is analyzed. The simulated results show that the proposed patch array can be working at 8-12GHz with VSWR better than 2.5 and scanning range more than ±45°.
