High Integration Ka-band Multi-beam Antenna for LEO Communication Satellite

As the global low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication (satcom) constellation develops rapidly, the millimeter-wave multi-beam phased array antenna is desired for satellite platform. This paper presents the design of a low profile Ka-band eight-beam electric scanning antenna composed of several tile-type subarrays, which has 32×32 radiating microstrip antenna elements, 256 SOC chips, eight beam-forming networks and one beam control unit. This antenna system has the advantages of low profile, light weight, high integration and flexible extensibility. It is a reasonable solution for LEO satcom application.
