Exploring the Consumers’ Willingness to Adopt Innovative Wearables- An Example of Smart Compression Stockings

Wireless sensor networks and information technology advancement have generated significant commercial opportunities for wearable health care devices and transformed health monitoring. Despite its relevance, limited research has been conducted to predict the factors influencing individual adoption of wearable health care devices such as smart compression stockings. This study aims to identify critical factors influencing individuals’ intention to adopt wearable health care devices: smart compression stockings. We propose this study model by adding several external variables to an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). An analytical approach of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is considered for testing the proposed model. This study presents a model to explain the implementation and testing of wearables: smart compression stockings using nursing faculty at two Medical Centers to help providers increase the intention of actual users to continue adoption and attract the prospective users to use wearable devices. We found the perceived usefulness and compatibility of the respondents forming a partial attitude of using the smart compression stockings, and the attitude affects the user intention.
