Study of regulation of skin temperature using dynamic digital thermal imaging

Skin temperature in different regions of the backs of human subjects has been measured repeatedly every 8 s with a digital thermal imaging system over periods of 15 min to 1 h. In addition to a general trend of slow cooling, the average temperature of skin patches was found to oscillate. These oscillations are local, but coupling between the oscillations in different regions of the back was observed. The frequency of these oscillations differs in different individuals and may be useful in the diagnosis of certain neurological disorders, as may be the coupling between different regions.<
