Research on Localization of Aeroacoustic Sources of Landing Gears

Microphone arrays and beamforming technology were used for acoustic imaging of two models of whether the landing gear (LG) was equipped with wheels or not. The measurement data was obtained using a planar array containing 24 microphones. The application of advanced beamforming methods, including CLEAN, DAMAS, DAMAS2, resulted in higher quality beamforming maps to suppress or eliminate sidelobes. The results show that as the frequency increases, the primary noise source position of the landing gear appears to be constantly moving by the airplane wheels along with the side strut. The primary noise source in the low-frequency part is generated by the airplane wheel, and the primary noise source in the mid and high frequency part is generated by the side strut.
