Experimental research on micro-cutting of titanium alloy with surface textured tool

The nanosecond laser is used in this paper to process the micro-hole texture on the YG8 tool, and the micromachining mechanism is studied through FEM simulation using COMSOL Multiphysics software. According to the survey, 15 W power, 20 kHz pulse frequency and 200 processing number are the best laser processing parameters. The orthogonal micro-cutting test device is used to carry out the orthogonal micro-cutting test of titanium alloy. The micro-cutting performance of untextured tools and micro-textured tools are compared and analyzed through the investigation of cutting forces and residual stresses. The result is that the texture on the tool could effectively improve the micro-cutting performance of the tool.
