A Radio Model for Precise Estimation of Lifetime for Wireless Sensor Network

The lifetime of a sensor node in a sensor network depends mainly upon power consumed during transmission, reception, listening and computation. Proper estimation of lifetime for a sensor network is possible if an exhaustive radio model is used for the same. Radio models used for a sensor network must include duty cycle of the node for correct estimation of lifetime. Along with this, power consumed for computation is also to be considered for proper estimation of network lifetime. Moreover, change in parameter like neighbor density may also affect the lifetime, by keeping all other parameters same. Here we propose a radio model that along with other necessary parameters, addresses the variation of duty cycle for computing the network lifetime. With this radio model, we calculate the variation in lifetime when neighbor density of the network changes.
