Fabrication and Spatial Focusing of a Stretchable Two-dimensional Ultrasonic Array Based on Row and Column Electrodes

Stretchable ultrasonic arrays have great potential for applications in neuromodulation, ultrasound therapy, and wearable devices. However, the relative positions of the elements are changed when the array is deformed, which brings inconvenience to focus the ultrasound waves. In this work, a stretchable ultrasonic array with row and column electrodes was presented firstly. Three-dimensional scanning was performed to rapidly obtain the surface geometry and position of elements when the array was attached on a skull model. According to the scanning results, the signal time delay of each element was readjusted to focus the ultrasound waves. The final simulation results indicated that three-dimensional scanning could be a potential method for guiding stretchable arrays to achieve the spatial focus of the ultrasound waves.
