Study of Handover Parameter Optimization Modeling for Four Base Stations with Empirical Radio Channels

The high mobility of the user's movement in mobile communication results in fluctuations in the received signal strength level as a result of propagation attenuation, distance and irregular environmental barriers. To maintain the stability and continuity of communication when the user moves, a service transfer mechanism is needed called Handover. Therefore, the study of handover on wireless networks is very important in an effort to maintain the quality of the communication signal and the stability of the continuity of communication between users. This research is focused on assessing optimal handover parameters in an effort to get better system performance, while maintaining a strong reception signal to maintain communication fulfilled. The research was conducted by designing a simulation, where; the specified cellular network model is four BS (Base Station), radio propagation channels are modeled with empirical channels, handover method uses a threshold model with hysteresis, then the output of the threshold model system parameters with hysteresis is optimized. The results of the optimization of the simulation output have succeeded in reducing the average size of the active set and the average rate of handover with the received signal strength quality equal to the signal quality before optimization.
