Research on PPM Modulation Performance of Deep Space Optical Communication

In order to achieve high power and ultra-long distance communication in deep space optical communication, the transmitter laser needs to be modulated with high efficiency. PPM(pulse position modulation) can achieve a high data transmission rate with a small laser pulse repetition frequency under a given optical average power, and it also has the advantages of high power utilization, high transmission efficiency and strong anti-interference ability. This paper compares the effect for transmission rate of pulsed fiber laser from three kinds of PPM modulation, finding a PPM modulation which can make performance of pulsed fiber lasers best. The experimental simulation shows that when the laser transmitting power meter is more than 600mW, the repetition frequency is more than 200KHz, and the communication distance is less than 400 million km, the transmission rate of the system can reach above 2Mbit/s by using DPPM and MPPM, and above 1Mbit/s by using LPPM.
