Recent Research on the Harmonic Recirculating Planar Magnetron

High power microwave sources find utility in applications including counter electronics and electronic warfare. Sources that radiate numerous frequencies concurrently are particularly valuable to these objectives because they provide variable target coupling across the electromagnetic spectrum. At the University of Michigan, the Recirculating Planar Magnetron (RPM)

was designed as a novel high power microwave source. The Multi-Frequency Recirculating Planar Magnetron (MFRPM)

built on the RPM concept by introducing two oscillators at different frequencies into the same vacuum chamber. The two oscillators are labeled the L-Band Oscillator (LBO) and S-Band Oscillator (SBO), designed for approximately 1 and 2 GHz, respectively. Both the RPM and MFRPM were driven by MELBA-C, applying - 300 kV for 0.3-1.0
