Simultaneous placement of DG and FACTS device in the Distribution system using Fractional Lévy Flight Bat Algorithm to minimize the Power losses

It is a well-known fact that the placement of Distributed Generation (DG) in the distribution system (DS) reduces power losses to a great extent, but DG alone doesn’t fulfill the reactive power requirements of the system. FACTS devices are generally used for reactive power compensation. Hence, simultaneous placement of DG and a FACTS device will not only reduce the power losses, but also compensate reactive power, and improve the voltage profile of the system. This paper introduces Fractional Lévy Flight Bat Algorithm (FLFBA) for the optimal sizing and siting of DG and a FACTS device in the DS to reduce the total active power losses of the system. To check the efficacy of this approach, it has been effectuated on the standard IEEE 33 and 69 bus test systems. The procured results were compared with that of other algorithms like PSO, Bat algorithm, and Firefly algorithm. The comparison of the results shows that FLFBA has a faster convergence rate, and the placement of DG and FACTS device using FLFBA gives better results than the other algorithms.
