Design & Analysis of Sliding Mode Controller for Fuel Cell based DC-DC Boost Converter fed by PMDC Motor

This paper aims to design and analysis of the sliding mode controller (SMC) for the Fuel Cell based boost converter fed PMDC motor in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The proposed controller is designed for varying speed of the PMDC motor (load) by controlling duty cycle and studied under MATLAB SIMULINK. The sliding mode control law is obtained based on the Lyapunov stability analysis to attain the asymptotically stable system. The sliding mode control law is designed for the continuous control component and discontinuous control component. Furthermore, the output and efficiency of both PID controller and sliding mode controller (SMC) are compared in this paper. The obtained simulation results for the fuel cell-based boost converter fed PMDC motor are presented that validates that SMC outperforms PID in terms of reducing disturbances and improving transient performance.
