The French computer network for the surveillance of communicable diseases

A computer network for the surveillance of communicable diseases in France has been developed. This network, which links the most important partners involved in the epidemiological surveillance system, is based on a microVAX computer included in a local-area VAX cluster, the VTX-VALU videotex software, and the ORACLE relational database management software. Access to the network is possible from France and abroad. Various software packages have been developed in order to control the network, manage and analyze databases, compose electronic epidemiological bulletins, and enhance communication between partners.<
