A Metasurface-Based Wideband Dual-Circular-Polarized Dual-Port Antenna for SWIPT Application

This paper presents a wideband dual-port dual-circular-polarized antenna that operates at 2.45 GHz and 6 GHz for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer systems. The higher frequency band at 5 GHz – 7 GHz is designed for RF energy transmission, while the lower frequency band at 2.45 GHz is designed for wireless communication. The patch that operates at higher band is covered by a metasurface, in order to extend the bandwidth. The radiators that operate at higher and lower bands share the same aperture, and the radiator operating at lower frequency (the square patch) also acts as the ground of the radiator that operates at higher band (4-element patch array). The proposed antenna is implemented. In the measurement, 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidth is found of 43% (from 4.7 to 7.3 GHz), and an isolation better than 45 dB is found at 2.45 GHz. The average gain exceeds 9.5 dBi from 5 GHz at 7GHz and 9 dBi at 2.45 GHz respectively.
