NAND Flash Memory and Its Place in IoT

Data storage requires an answer to the constantly evolving question - how best to store the mammoth amount of data being generated? There is a great diversity of storage solutions currently, ranging from personal USB devices, personal Solid State Drives (SSD) and HardDrives (HD) to Cloud storage and server farms. However, the right storage solution depends on how the data will be used. As Flash memory plays a key role in all the hierarchy levels of Internet of Things (IoT) systems, this paper will lay out a broad discussion on both IoT and Solid State Memory (SSM), followed by an attempt to link these two fields. The topics mentioned under IoT include: Big Data and the Cloud, The Cloud of Things, Flash in the Datacentre, Scalability and Reliability, Edge Computing, Fog Computing and Osmotic Computation. While, topics under SSM include: Non-volatile Reliability, Errors and Wearout, NOR v NAND, 2D TLC, 3D TLC, QLC and Optane.
