Construction of Integral Equation to Calculate Discharge Characteristics of Asymmetric Electrode System

Partial discharges (PDs) have been one of the primary causes of degradation in high voltage equipment. Therefore, in the past few years, many studies have been conducted on power equipment. In the present study, we aimed to analyze PD characteristics using an integral equation to reduce the primary parameter numbers to present the PD characteristics under AC voltage conditions. First, we used the PD delay time as the parameter and successfully presented primary PD characteristics for several model electrodes. Then, we introduced two parameters for the positive and negative PD characteristics separately; as a result, the integral equation became double in size. We then attempted to simulate the PD with other parameters, such as the fluctuations of PD inception voltage and/or PD extinction voltage, for each polarity. We demonstrate the approaches for solving the equations using the PD simulation.
