Mechanism Study on the Allometric Scaling Laws of Power Grid Scale Based on Community Detection

On the basis of the previous study that has revealed the allometric scaling laws of power grids, the paper turns from power grids of various scales all around the world to focus on the inner structures of a large power grid. Combining the hierarchical and multi-regional structural features of a power grid itself, a GN community detection algorithm based on weighted modularity is proposed, verifying the allometric scaling laws of power grid scale from another perspective. The paper first transforms a large power grid into a complex weighted network model with the electrical susceptance between nodes as its weight. Then the large power grid is divided into a certain quantity of individual power grids through community detection. By analyzing the data of these individual power grids, the changing of power grid scale further proves to satisfy allometric scaling laws and shows sublinear increase. This conclusion hints that the development limit of power grid scale exists, and therefore more emphasis should be laid on the endogenous growth, which is essential, of the power grid after reaching a certain construction level.
