Plight of Social Media Users: The Problem of Fake News on Social Media

This paper discusses the social media news consumption behavior (frequency and content type), the trustworthiness of social media websites and applications, the problem of fake news on social media, and the literacy and awareness of news verification process and fact-checking process of news content shared on social media among social media users. This study highlights the response collected from 250 participants (125 males, 125 females) social media users for a study conducted to understand the impact, effect, and influence of fake news shared on social media services and how social media user are being affected by it fake news.
