A Wireless Low-Cost Device for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

The article describes the design and implementation of a low cost medical electronic device used for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). TENS is a non-invasive peripheral stimulation technique often used to reduce pain in patients suffering from various diseases or older people. The device is mainly developed by using commercially available circuits and electronic modules, all of them having low power consumption as features. The proposed developed device can be wirelessly connected to android operating system-based smartphones for device parameters configuration and operation modes selection. An experimental module has been developed, implemented and partially tested with good results.
