A Digital and Lightweight Delay-Based Detector against Fault Injection Attacks

This paper proposes a digital and lightweight delay- based detector against fault injection attacks (FIAs) which could induce clock glitches. The detector has a simple structure and exploits a reconfigurable delay chain to monitor the clock signal disturbances. The delay chain is designed according to the protected circuit's clock period and timing slack, such that the detector can work in a range of delay values. This property makes the detector tolerate the aging issue. The experiments on iterative DES cipher circuit verify that the detector is effective to detect clock glitches. The overheads of area and power consumption introduced by the detector are 0.058% and 4.5%, respectively.
