Challenges with Edge Computing in Mechatronics Education

Constant pressure on the industry to improve its business performance and productivity can be decreased using a new approach in data processing. In industrial data processing, one of the new approaches is using Edge computing. Edge computing enables the collection and analysis of data at or near its source. This capability enables that some problems can be quickly eliminated before they cause costly downtime of the production. The knowledge about Edge computing has to part of today's engineering education. To overcome the potential lack of knowledge of how to apply the Edge computing architecture in practice, it is important to change curriculums for engineers. In this paper are described some of the experiences in applying this approach to Mechatronics curriculum carried out at the University of Novi Sad and China Agricultural University.
