mm-Wave Patch Antenna for High Data Rate Communication Applications

A very compact broadband mm-wave antenna is proposed and designed on inexpensive FR4 material. It is structured by placing a partial ground plane on 10 × 10 mm
²
substrate and patch on opposite side of ground. The antenna is fed with 50 Ω microstrip line feeding excited by source in XZ-plane. The performance parameters of proposed antenna are improved by etching an extended E-shaped slot with two dumble shaped slots at its center. These slots reduces the copper losses and circulates the current on surface of patch. Thus, achieves the impedance-bandwidth of 30.77-46GHz, 3 dBi gain-bandwidth of 30-46GHz, peak-gain of 7.91 dBi and average radiation efficiency of 82.38%. The proposed antenna is suitable for futuristic Ka-and partial Q-band applications.
