Numerical Analysis of Light Absorption in Tapered Nanowire Based Perovksite Solar cell

Research in perovskite solar cells has continued to increase in order to use the superior properties of the material that shows enormous potential. Using perovskite nanowires instead of a planer layer of perovskite can actually improve the absorption of photons and transportation of charge carriers towards the transport layer. In this work, a stable cell design having structure ITO / NiOx / Perovskite Nanowires (Absorber) / ZnO / Al contact is used and performance parameters are investigated along with the change of nanowire radius. Moreover, a tapered nanowire structure is proposed which has an added feature to absorb light of different wavelengths on the edge of the nanowire to produce more electron-hole pairs. The optimum radius of the nanowires was found to be 165 nm top, 250 nm bottom and pitch 100 nm which gave Jsc= 300 Am
^-2
, which was an increase from 278 Am
^-2
found when the nanowires are non-tapered. The tapered nanowire structure can further be used in tandem with silicon to use the solar spectrum more efficiently which can be of interest for future research.
