In-Band RCS Reduction of Antenna Array Using Polarization Conversion Metasurface

An approach aimed at reducing the in-band radar cross section (RCS) of antenna array while maintaining its radiation performance is presented. Polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) that consists of periodical structure on the top of dielectric substrate, achieved relative bandwidth 58% of 10-dB polarization conversion, is developed. When the developed PCM is applied to a 4-unit horn antenna, simulation results show that VSWR and radiation pattern is unchanged and the RCS is obviously reduced in operation frequency range. The proposed method is simple, low-cost, and easily fabricated, providing a new way for in-band RCS reduction of antenna.
