Dielectric EBG Corner Reflector Antenna with Enhanced Directivity and RCS Reduction

Reduction of in-band RCS is a key work of antenna stealth. In this paper, a novel corner reflector antenna with dielectric electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures based on dielectric rods is proposed. Based on the unique concept of loading specially arranged gradient blocks of dielectric rods, the proposed antenna could greatly cover the shortages of traditional corner reflectors, such as low gain and strong scattering. Characteristics of the novel corner reflector antenna are simulated and compared with a standard one. Results show that, over the frequency band of 2GHz-18GHz, the average backward RCS reduction reaches 9.1dB with a significant in-band reduction, and a good directivity enhancement is realized simultaneously. Moreover, the maximum gain reaches 14.04dBi at 9GHz, and the maximum backward RCS reduction reaches 16.2dBsm.
