A Tri-Band SIW Single-Slot Antenna Fed by Asymmetric GCPW

A novel tri-band substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) single-slot antenna is proposed in this paper. In the design, an SIW resonant cavity with a longitudinal slot on top surface is excited by an asymmetric grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) transmission line. Compared with other multiband slot SIW antennas, the proposed antenna can operate in three resonance modes TE101, TE102 and TE103 using only one single slot due to the single-slot cuts currents of three resonance modes to create radiation. The simulated results show that the gains of the proposed antenna are all greater than 5dBi at three resonance frequencies 24.7 GHz, 28.8 GHz and 32.6 GHz. The designed antenna with stable and frequency independent radiation patterns can be used in mobile communication systems, fifth generation wireless communications and so on.
