Current Starved Ring Voltage Control Oscillator for High Frequency and Low Power Application

This paper describes five stages CMOS Ring voltage control oscillator (RVCO) technique for the low power PLL application. The operating frequency of RVCO is 3.22 GHZ and designed using 45nm CMOS technology with different values of the threshold voltage. The switching of the MOSFET is improved by the use of the current starved Power switching technique. CMOS circuit provides better linearity under the tuning range of 900 MHz to 3.22 GHz for the control voltage range 0.6V to 1V. The phase noise of the RVCO is observed as -71.9 dB at 1MHz offset frequency. The circuit of RVCO draws a power dissipation of 4.18 μW at a control voltage of 0.6V. The RVCO is designed and simulated in the cadence Virtuoso tool.
