High-Entropy Alloy Nanoparticles As Catalyst For Nanomolar-Level Detection Of Neurotransmitter Serotonin In Serum

For the first time, high-entropy alloy (HEA) nanoparticles are used as electrochemical sensing catalyst to detect serotonin molecules with printed sensor chips. As a major neurotransmitter, serotonin contributes to a variety of biological and psychopathological processes and is considered as a biomarker for the diagnosis of various diseases. Herein, a senary HEA nanomaterial, PtPdRhRuIrNi, is synthesized as highly active catalyst for the electro-oxidation of serotonin. With the conductive graphene nanofiber (GNF) as support, the sensing material PtPdRhRuIrNi@GNF shows high sensitivity (LOD of 10 nM) and selectivity, and successfully detect serotonin in serum samples, exhibiting huge potential in biosensing field.
