Terahertz Driven Ultrafast Electron Sources

We review progress towards the attempt to build THz driven and THz aided ultrafast electron sources suitable for ultrafast electron diffraction and injection of follow on THz accelerator systems that may later drive X-ray sources. Sources are based on either single-cycle or multi-cycle THz radiation. Where possible, we relate designs to already achieved experimental results as well as to the available THz sources for different pulse formats.
