Development of a New Seating Platform Based on the 3-RCC Parallel Mechanism

N on-road vehicles often drive on the non-paved road surface, which will be impacted and vibrated in many directions. The suspension of such vehicles can not completely attenuate such impact vibration, so it is necessary to reduce the seat vibration. In this paper, a novel seat suspension is proposed to attenuate multidimensional vibration. In this platform, the 3-RCC parallel mechanism is applied to the seat suspension system. Meanwhile, an additional active control leg using fuzzy PID control algorithm is added to the three legs of the mechanism. The virtual prototype of suspension model was built in ADAMS, and the controller was built in Matlab / Simulink. The joint simulation using ADAMS and MATLAB of the seat suspension using passive vibration reduction and active control were carried out respectively to predict the behavior of the seating platform. The simulation results show that the 3-RCC seat suspension system using passive control can reduce the vibration by 84.6%,84.6% and 67.2% in X, Y, and Z-directions respectively. With the active control leg, the vibration reduction ratios are further improved by 8.1 %, 20.9% and 22.7% respectively.
