Horizontally Polarized End-Fire LTCC Antenna with High Gain and Wideband for 5G Mobile Terminal Application

A novel broadband high gain horizontally polarized end-fire antenna is proposed in this paper for 5G mobile terminals. The proposed antenna has three sections and the geometric dimensions of each section are gradually enlarged along the radiating direction. The antenna achieves good performance with simple structure compared with its former counterparts. A prototype based on low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) process technology is designed. Simulated results show that the antenna has the operation bandwidth ranging from 21-30GHz (≈36%) with return loss less than -10dB, covering the entire 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) band. The antenna gain reaches about 7-8dBi over the 5G millimeter-wave band.
