Analysis of Multi-point Synchronous Measurement Data for Fault Location of Distribution Network

The medium and low voltage distribution network in China has a complex structure with many branch lines. Single-phase ground faults can easily cause attenuation of traveling wave signals and information aliasing, which makes it difficult to locate distribution network faults. This paper proposes a multi-point method for accurately locating faults in distribution networks with synchronous measurement data greatly improves the efficiency and accuracy of fault location. The two-point synchronous sampling data is used to correct the line parameters, and the fault components after phase-mode transformation decoupling are used to write the fault point differential equations in the time domain and the least square method is used to obtain the optimal solution. This method solves the problem of limited distribution of monitoring points in distribution network lines, and the amount of required data is not large. Only a few cycles of fault data are required before and after the fault occurs. Finally, a fault simulation model of distribution network was established in PSCAD software and an example analysis was carried out to verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
