The Impact of High-Speed Heavy Electric Railway Load on Wind Farms

After ten years of construction and development, the Jiuquan wind power base has taken shape and entered into reality, and the Hexi Corridor Lan-Xin Railway Electrification Project as well as the Lanzhou to Urumqi Pipeline Project will also start constructions and developments. It should be noted that the locations of the high-speed tracks, the heavy-duty electric railway traction power stations and the wind power 330kV/110kV substations will be electrically close. In this context, the electrified railway may result in an asymmetric operation and introducing harmonics to the power grid, endangering the reliability of the wind power system. Concentrated largescale off-grid win d power threatens not only the stability of Gansu Power Grid, but also the entire Northwest power grid. Besides, the intermittent wind power voltage fluctuations may also degrade the rehabiliy of the electric railway system power supply. To investigate these issues and problems, this work simulates and analyzes the influences of a high-speed heavy electric railway load on the wind farm performances.
