Design of a Ka-Band Intelligent Antenna

This paper proposes a Ka-band spaceborne intelligent antenna with shaped beam for TT&C and satellite communication. The antenna consists of seven units of circular polarized antenna, an active amplifier module, a power source and a beam controller. Using beam forming ability of the intelligent antenna, a global beam and four sectional beams can be realized to achieve full coverage of the service area of communication satellite. Simulated results show that the gain at the elevation angle of ± 55° is greater than 5.5dBi, and the noise is smaller than 3.3dB. Fortunately, -24dB/K is obtained of the receiving system. This antenna is characterized by low profile, perfect electrical performance, flexible beam control and strong engineering feasibility, which can be widely used in the field of satellite communication.
