A Corrugated Wideband Ground Shared Vivaldi Antenna for Symmetrical Dual-Beam mmWave 5G Applications

A wideband ground shared Vivaldi antenna is proposed for mmWave 5G applications. Two metallic tapers are oriented at + 45 and -45 degrees which are fed by a microstrip line based power divider for obtaining the radiation beams at the respective angles. Varying length corrugations are inserted along the edges of Vivaldi metallic tapers to obtain the symmetrical and uniform radiation beams with enhanced front-to-back ratio. Wide impedance bandwidth covering frequencies from 21 - 31 GHz is obtained. High gain ranging between 6 - 7.8 dBi is attained over the whole operating frequency band. The 1-dB gain bandwidth of proposed antenna is 29.6 % implying high pattern integrity across the entire operational frequency band. Wide angular coverage is obtained for the proposed antenna topology.
