Design of High Efficiency Circular Polarized Antenna Array

This paper presents the design of a circular polarized antenna array in X-band with high efficiency. The antenna array consists of a linear polarized antenna array and a circular-polarization polarizer. Full metal structure and corporate feeding network are adopted in the linear polarized antenna array to achieve high efficiency and wide band properties. The polarizer is metal strips printed on a one-layer substrate in periodic layout. An antenna array with 4 × 4 radiation elements and 12×12 polarizer elements is designed. The simulated results show that the antenna array can cover the bandwidth from 8.3 GHz to 9.2 GHz with VSWR<; 2.0 and the axial ratio below 3.0 dB. The realized gain varies from 17.8 dB to 18.0 dB over the frequency band. The taper feeding is used here.
