Changed Communication in Engineering

This paper introduces the concept and methodology of the Engineering Communication Model (ECM) which serves integration of new communication demanded by highly automated engineering systems. ECM is a contribution to methodological background of increasingly integrated and autonomous system structures mainly in info-communication, vehicles, industrial equipment, household equipment, and entertainment. Conventional means of engineering communication were various types of documentation and later non-autonomous models. These means are not suitable for highly automated, increasingly autonomous and lifecycle developed and engineered cyber physical biological systems (CPBSs) which need the following very different means of communication. Communicated information is reacted by autonomous generic models which real time modify all related models. Integrated contextually driven communication is capable of lifecycle support in research, development, production, operation, and recycling phases of engineering achievements including experimental structures, prototypes, and configurable products. Model driven cyber units of CPBS provides situation based control for IoT connected physical units in real time. This requires situation awareness. To prepare the explanation for the ECM concept and method, the Complex Integrated Engineering Environment (CIEE) concept and method is introduced in this paper. Following this, the key issue of interventions needed at communication item accommodation in ECM is analyzed. Finally, the possible implementation of the proposed method at system level modeling platform connects the proposed methods with the industrial practice.
