Joint Synchronization and Attocell Identification With Received Power Estimation in VLC Networks

Optical attocell networks building upon visible light communication (VLC) offer several advanced features including load balancing, mobility management etc. as in radio-frequency networks. Attocell identification is crucial to perform the features' functionalities. Attocells are allocated with identities and their own synchronization signals (SSs) are generated accordingly. The signal is periodically broadcasted and used for cell identification and synchronization in receiver side. In this letter, we revise SS design for VLC domain and propose a joint synchronization and cell identification including SS received power estimation mechanism. The performance of proposed mechanisms is then evaluated though Monte-Carlo simulations.
