Practical Approaches on the Assessment Procedure of Possible Interference Effects of 5G Base Stations on Radar Systems

For many countries, the frequency spectrum of 3400 MHz - 3800 MHz that has been aimed to be dedicated to the fifth generation (5G) communications systems has already been hosting and neighboring miscellaneous critical radar services with air traffic control, early warning and air defense purposes. Due to the foresight that the out-of-band (OOB) emission limits which have been proposed in the literature in order to protect the radar services from interference have been interpreted to strictly limit the transmission potential of 5G systems, there have been several country-specific approaches on relaxing the prescribed emission limits. Within this paper, more realistic approaches on interpreting the OOB emission limits are presented.
