Laser Based Vibration Measurement For Structural Health Monitoring

In this paper, we have illustrated a whole new method for determining structural vibrations using laser based non-contact vibration measurement technique in real time including a proper method for data acquisition and advanced processing of that data for the extraction of important parameters which further determines the state of the structure being monitored. The main aim of this move is to propose a system framework for advanced damage recognition of the concrete structures in real time with better efficiency at low cost. A real time monitoring system can build a database over time by gathering data in a continuous manner and thus gets a good information about the health of the structure kept under observation. The created design invokes a very fast evaluation about the target with data acquisition, processing and extraction thus making itself a very reliable one. In terms of cost, the overall system will be of 25-30% of the total monitoring cost which includes the charge of installing the system and other related expenses. To check the performance of the whole design, the results given by our system, have been compared with the results of one of the commercially available contact-based vibration measurement devices and the experiments have been conducted more than once in several areas.
