A Novel CanSat-Based Implementation of the Guidance Control Mechanism Using Goal-Image Recognition

Recently, the CanSat contests have gained popularity as demonstration experiments for planetary exploration rovers. In these contests, each team develops an autonomously controlled small planetary exploration rover and competes in attaining proximity to the goal. In this paper, we describe an image recognition control method that guided our CanSat towards 0 m of the goal. As a guidance method for the CanSat, we propose a method for recognizing the goal pylon by its color. In the Tanegashima Rocket Contest 2018, we succeeded in approaching the goal at a distance of 0 m by using the proposed method.
