Constant DC-Capacitor Voltage-Control-Based Reactive Power Control method of Bidirectional Battery Charger for EVs in Commercial Single-Phase Three-Wire Distribution Feeders

This paper addresses power quality compensation with a constant DC-capacitor voltage-control (CDCVC)-based reactive power control method of a three-leg pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifier in the bidirectional battery-charger (BBC) for electric vehicles in commercial single-phase three-wire distribution feeders (SPTWDFs), which multiple domestic consumers are connected. The instantaneous power flow into the three-leg PWM rectifier demonstrates that the balanced and sinusoidal source currents with a pre-decided power factor (PF) are attained in the domestic consumer equipped with the BBC, while unbalanced and distorted source currents remain in the other domestic consumers without the BBC. Simulation results demonstrate that balanced and sinusoidal source currents at a PF of 0.90, which is the pre-decided value, are obtained in the domestic consumer that is equipped with the BBC, while unbalanced and distorted source currents remain in the other domestic consumers without the BBC. Simulation results also demonstrate that controlling the reactive power reduces the capacity of the three-leg PWM rectifier in the BBC.
