A New Methodology to Design Electric Motors for Automotive Applications Including Magnetic, Thermal, Structural and Vibration Constraints

In order to design efficient electric motors for automotive applications, it is necessary to consider the constraints from different physics: size, weight, torque density, temperature, and mechanical stress due to high speed and vibration limits. A new methodology taking into account all these aspects will be presented in this paper. A design of experiments (DOE) analysis is carried out in order to build a surface of response and then optimize the motor, fulfilling the different constraints by only modifying the rotor shape.
