Toward a Global Green Smart Microgrid: An Industrial Park in China

Today, the global energy crisis is becoming more serious, which is manifested by the shortage of fossil fuels and considerable environmental pollution. As a supplement to large-scale centralized power generation, distributed energy resources, such as wind and photovoltaic (PV) power, provide a new way to solve the energy crisis. In this paper, microgrid technology is proposed to increase the controllability and mitigate the uncertainty of distributed energy resources, thus reducing the negative impacts of renewable energy on grid stability under a high penetration rate. The capacity price can compensate for the investment costs for microgrid investors. Moreover, the demand-response model based on the time-of-use electricity price will provide guidance for better operation results, where the total operation cost can be reduced, and the renewable energy accommodation capability can be improved. The introduced instance has a strong universality that is applicable to industrial and commercial parks, high-energy-consuming enterprises, charging stations, schools, and so on.
