A Novel Design for Superconducting and Magnetic Field Modulation Electric Machine

The field modulation electric machines have been widely employed in industries for its high torque density. The superconductor is perfectly conductive and diamagnetic, which make it extremely suitable for electric machines. This paper proposes a new design for superconducting and magnetic field modulation (SMFM) electric machine. The operation principle of the SMFM electric machine is analyzed. And the finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze the electromagnetic characteristics of the SMFM electric machine. It can be concluded that the SMFM electric machine owns higher torque density and lower torque ripple.
