Hybrid Three-Phase Isolated DC-DC Converter Based on 5-Level NPC Topology

In this paper, a hybrid three-phase isolated DC-DC converter based on neutral point clamped (NPC) converter using wide band gap semiconductor devices is proposed. In this structure 5-level NPC converters in high voltage side and 3-level NPC converters in low voltage side are connected through high frequency transformer. 1.2kV silicon carbide MOSFETs and 1.2kV silicon IGBTs have been chosen for this structure. To better evaluate the efficiency of the converter, thermal characteristics of switches have been modeled. Finally, simulations have been done in PLECS software package to verify the operation of the proposed converter.
